Nancy Boettger, a retired farmer and educator, has had a long and distinguished career in service to education.  In addition to her five years as a teacher, she served as director of education and resource development at Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan, Iowa, for 12 years.

Additionally, Boettger served for 20 years in the Iowa State Senate (1995-2015). While a member of the Senate, she chaired the education, education appropriations, international relations, and human resources committees. She was also both assistant majority and assistant minority leader, and served on numerous international delegations.

Boettger is a past chair of the Midwest Council of State Government Committee, and is former member of both the Midwest Higher Education Compact and the Education Commission of States.  She has also served on the Boards of the American Baptist Homes of the Midwest, U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy, Iowa Council for International Understanding, Iowa State Empowerment, Senior Living Coordinating, and Child Support Recovery Advisory. Additionally, she has served on the Council of State Governments International Relations Committee, the American Legislative Exchange Council International Relations Committee, the National Council of State Legislators Health Task Force, the National Foundation of Women Legislators, and the Kettering Foundation Public Policy Research Group.

She and her husband, David, have been married for more than 50 years, live in Harlan and have four children and 16 grandchildren. Boettger holds two bachelor’s degrees, in sociology from Iowa State University and in education from Buena Vista College.

Regent Boettger was appointed to the Board on March 1, 2017, by Governor Branstad.  Her term expires April 30, 2023.
