Katie Mulholland recently retired as superintendent of schools for Linn-Mar Community School District in Marion/Cedar Rapids after serving 12 years.  Prior to joining Linn-Mar in 2003, she held positions as assistant superintendent for PK-12 school districts in Naperville, IL; Dubuque, IA; and Ottumwa, IA.  Her career in public education began as a teacher and special education consultant in the Waterloo, Iowa, Community School District.  A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Katie earned three degrees from the University of Northern Iowa:  a B.A. in art; a master’s degree in special education; and a doctorate in educational administration.

Current  community involvement includes:  United Way of East Central Iowa Board Chair; Junior Achievement Board of Trustees; Cedar Rapids Mercy Hospital Board Subcommittee on Ethics; Ohnward Bank and Trust Board member, and Cedar Rapids Sunrise Rotary.  Past service activities include Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce Board (6 years); president of Cedar Rapids Sunrise Rotary (2008-09); chair of City Superintendents of Iowa (2010-11), and School Administrators of Iowa Executive Leaders Steering Committee. Mulholland was a member of several state-wide Iowa education/legislative task forces including Institute for Tomorrow’s Work Force (2006-07),  Panel for Review of College and University Programs for Superintendent Certification (2007-09), and Co-chair for the Iowa Department of Education Legislative Taskforce Final Proposal:  Research, Development, Demonstration, Demonstration PreK-12 School, University of Northern Iowa.  In 2008, the Corridor Business Journal recognized Katie as a Woman of Influence.  In 2012, she was named Iowa Superintendent of the Year.

Katie and her husband, Ed Mulholland, are the parents of four adult children who are graduates of the University of Iowa and the grandparents of seven—3 boys and 4 girls.  Ed, a graduate of UNI, is a retired high school administrator (Dubuque Hempstead) who also coached and taught in Elkader, Iowa and at West High School in Waterloo.

Regent Mulholland was elected President Pro Tem on June 5, 2013, and unanimously re-elected on April 24, 2014.  Her term on the Board expires April 30, 2017.
