Student Health Insurance
Comprehensive insurance solutions were created in response to increasing costs and concern for student health. Benefits and services include coverage for a wide array of student groups, as well as a commitment to promote the value of student health and student insurance to higher education leadership. MHEC offers options from two national underwriters, UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR) and Consolidated Health Plans (CHP). The contract with CHP will expire on December 1, 2017. Efforts are guided by MHEC’s Student Health Benefits Advisory Committee, a network of institutional peers, health center professionals, and risk managers who are focused on student health.
MHEC has completed its due diligence through a comprehensive and extensive RFP process designed to save our members time and money. Campuses can provide students with quality insurance solutions that protect students from unexpected medical costs, thus enabling students to complete and succeed in their studies.
Who is eligible?
MHECare purchasing power is available to public and private not-for-profit institutions of higher education within member states of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact. Campuses that purchase insurance directly from carriers and campuses that utilize brokers are both eligible to participate. The Compact also has agreements with its sister compacts the New England Board of Higher Education, the Southern Regional Education Board, and the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.
