Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Degree Network System Rebooted
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) will provide a current status and future perspectives on the SOC; identify program initiatives that are complete, consolidated, and streamlined to enhance the Degree Network System's (DNS) membership and processes.
SOC DNS has completed a comprehensive transformation with the goal of consolidating the DNS for program efficiencies and greater servicemember access to education programs. Participants will learn about the revised membership criteria, reshaping of the DNS networks, and how the transformation process affects education center personnel and college participants.

The recommended audience for this webinar is state authorization staff at institutions who are new to SARA and institutional staff who need to interact with SARA (e.g., leadership, institutional research, webmasters, clinical internship directors, distance education directors, etc.). This webinar is for institutions in M-SARA member states.

Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center – An Overview
Join staff from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) to learn more about the educational options available to servicemembers through their institution. There will also be discussion on best practices in transferring DLIFLC credit and general education reverse transfer type articulation agreement opportunities for degree completion.
Business officers invited to connect with MHEC during NACUBO Annual Meetings
Attendees of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) annual meeting in Minneapolis will have a few opportunities to connect with the MHEC team July 29 - August 1. MHEC is proud of its history of collaboration and the NACUBO theme: Currents of Collaboration is aptly named given the meeting's "focus on the power of higher education and the role of the chief business officer in navigating connections and steering diverse teams toward a shared vision for the future".
Larry Isaak, MHEC president, and Nathan Sorensen, MHEC strategic IT procurement officer, will attend the opening reception and look forward to connecting with attendees. Additional MHEC staff will be available for questions at booth #904 during the scheduled exhibit hours on Sunday afternoon and evening, and again, Monday morning. Finally, MHEC invites attendees of NACUBO to learn more about MHEC programs and services during their breakfast on Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. Please register and plan to join us for this conversation.

MHEC Executive Committee Convenes in Michigan
On June 5-6, the MHEC Executive Committee met in Lansing, Michigan. Four key action items were approved by the commissioners: 1) The 2017-2021 MHEC strategic plan which will be posted to the MHEC website soon; 2) A proposed new logo for the MHEC that builds upon the existing logo's identity, more information will be coming soon; 3) The continued exploration of a sustainable energy initiative; and 4) the FY 2018 budget.
A presentation on Institution-Led, Cross-Sector Transfer Reform in Michigan was given by Dr. Dan Hurley, chief executive officer of the Michigan Association of State Universities and a MHEC commissioner alternate, along with Dr. Erica Orians, director of the Michigan Center for Student Success at the Michigan Community College Association.

Ken Ries, MHEC chief information officer is in Michigan today meeting with chief information officers and providing an update on MHEC's Technologies Committee and opportunities to purchase from MHEC's technology contracts.
Jennifer Dahlquist, MHEC vice president, and Sara Appel, MHEC project coordinator of the Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit, will participate in meetings at Army University next week. Ms. Appel will also present with others on June 28, at the American Legion Roundtable in Washington D.C.
