Rep. Bud Nornes is in his 11th term in the Minnesota House of Representatives. He lives in Fergus Falls and represents District 8A, which spans most of Otter Tail County. Nornes currently chairs the House Higher Education Policy and Finance Committee, the third time he has held that position. A Fertile High School graduate, Nornes has a background in broadcasting. He attended Brown Institute of Broadcasting and has been involved with the radio industry since the 1960s as both an on-air personality and owner of radio station s in Fergus Falls. Nornes was a member of the Fergus Falls School Board from 1983-1996 before earning election to the House of Representatives. He follows in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Ole Opdahl, who also served as a Republican House member in the early 1900s. Nornes also is active in his local community as a member of the Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, the Elks, the Kiwanis, Pheasants Forever and the United Way. He and wife, Joyce, have three grown children and 10 grandchildren.
