Representative Joan Ballweg was elected in November 2004 to represent Wisconsin’s 41st district in the State Assembly.

A Wisconsin native, Representative Joan Ballweg received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. She and her husband Tom live in Markesan, WI, and have three adult children. In the early 80s she began to get involved in the community where she chaired the Markesan Revitalization Committee, was elected as alderperson to the Markesan City Council in 1986, founded the Markesan PTA in 1987, and served as its president in 1989. Representative Joan Ballweg served as alderperson to the Markesan City Council until she was elected to serve as mayor in the fall of 1990, a capacity in which she served until 1997.

She’s also been a member of the Waupun Memorial Hospital Board of Directors (1999-2005), and chaired its board (2002-2005), and served on the Management Committee of Agnesian HealthCare Enterprises, LLC (2003-2004).
