MHEC's Multi-State Collaborative on Military Credit offers webinar about Forever GI Bill

On August 2, HR 3218, the "Forever GI Bill" was passed and it now awaits the President's signature.
In anticipation of the impact this bill's passing will have on postsecondary institutions, MHEC has confirmed a webinar with Mr. Will Hubbard, vice president of government affairs at Student Veterans of America (SVA), on September 21, at 1:00 p.m. CT. for Forever GI Bill – Your Questions Answered.
Mr. Hubbard will provide a brief background on how the Forever GI Bill came to fruition and highlight some of the major components. SVA offers a section-by-section analysis of the legislation. Register here for the webinar.

M-SARA Regional Steering Committee Convenes with State Portal Agents

Over 30 attended the Midwestern-State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement annual meeting on July 17-19. The meeting convened the M-SARA Regional Steering Committee and State Portal Agents from each of the State Portal Entities. Marshall Hill, NC-SARA executive director, attended the meeting to address questions. In addition, attendees discussed the progress of the SARA initiative and other matters relevant. Since the meeting's adjourment, 48 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are now members of SARA, and nearly 1,600 institutions participate.

On July 29-August 1, the MHEC team successfully hosted attendees of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) to the MHEC booth and breakfast to familiarize NACUBO attendees with MHEC’s services.

The 2017-2021 MHEC Strategic Plan calls for the Compact to focus its efforts around four themes:
1.    Shifting demographics - changing composition of the student body;
2.    Evolving modes of packaging and delivering education;
3.    Declining share of public investment in higher education; and
4.    Desire for collaboration beyond the institution.
