INDIANAPOLIS, IN; MINNEAPOLIS, MN; and COLUMBUS, OH – Ohio State Representative Rick Carfagna was elected the treasurer of the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) on November 19, during the commission’s semi-annual meeting held in Indianapolis, Ind. One of four regional higher education compacts in the United States, MHEC is legislatively created and the Compact’s purpose is to provide greater higher education opportunities and services in the Midwest.

“I am very pleased and grateful to have Rep. Carfagna serve as our new treasurer,” said Susan Heegaard, MHEC president. “His leadership in the Ohio House of Representatives and role as the House Finance Subcommittee Chair as well as his business background will serve him well in the oversight of MHEC’s finances and work of our Finance and Audit Committee.”

Rep. Carfagna was appointed in March to a two-year term to serve on MHEC’s governing board. He is serving his second term in the Ohio House of Representatives and serves the 68th House District including the eastern half of Delaware County and all of Knox County.

“It is a tremendous honor to have been elected as the treasurer of MHE and to have Ohio represented as part of MHEC’s executive leadership team," said Rep. Carfagna. "I’m eager to work with the Compact’s 12 states across the Midwest to advance higher education through interstate cooperation and resource sharing in our region.”

Ohio has been a member since the Compact’s creation in 1991 and MHEC’s states are synonymous with the Midwest census region states. In addition to Rep. Carfagna, Ohio commissioners are: Gary Cates, Senior Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Enterprise Development, Ohio Department of Higher Education; Dr. Stephanie Davidson, Vice Chancellor,  Academic Affairs, Ohio Department of Higher Education, Jack Hershey, President, Ohio Association of Community Colleges; and Sen.
